Is the comma (,) a break in an existing thought or the hesitance of the next thought? Is it that the question mark (?) awaits for someone to erase the curve on top, to become that little dot we call full stop (.) Tired maybe it is. But to stop, is to know. But when do we ever know? Or, do we ever know? Is there ever a FULL STOP?
Romantics (like the self proclaimed one the writer is) rejoice in abstraction, yet the common folk inclines towards tangability, a physical manifestation of the intangable. With an ‘answer’, one caters to this tangability. Yet an answer often tends to demarcate, a right and naturally its anti thesis, a wrong. Amidst the hesitance and the hurry of this black and white pursuit, there is left no room for the grey, the pursuit itself.
This in between must come to the forefront, with the aim of the design forum being able to foster this pursuit. When the process of design itself is iterative (/), why should its measure be the outcome (.) The ‘why’ of the idea, and the ‘what’ of the intent become as important as the ‘how’ of its execution.
The writer strongly believes that design is a responsibility. When a forum stretches beyond the confines of the canvas, the layers of tracing unveil the weight of the responsibility taken up. When the forum looks at the design beyond straight lines, it prompts for a discourse to turn into dialogue. None is a spectator, for none needs ‘to know’, they need to remain open ‘to get to know’. And so an inquiry emerges, an inquiry ‘for’ and not ‘on’ is enabled. Through this inquiry, tangability is not seen as the solution, but as the way of thinking that evolves as one navigates through the intangibles.
